Gillian Kearvell – Vice President Exploration

Ms. Kearvell is a geologist (BSc) with 25 year’s exploration experience working with both junior and senior companies throughout North America, including 16 years in Mexico. Ms. Kearvell was most recently Vice President of Corporate Development for Newstrike’s predecessor company, Aurea Mining. Previous to that, in several increasing management roles for Teck Exploration, she co-discovered the San Nicolas VMS deposit in Zacatecas and led Teck’s exploration team responsible for the El Limon gold discovery. Ms. Kearvell is President of Minera GMK, a Mexican based exploration company.

Dr. Craig Gibson – Consultant – Field Operations

Mr. Gibson, Ph.D., Msc, CPG, a qualified person under NI43-01 with more than 20 years of experience as a professional exploration and economic geologist for large and small companies in Latin America, including Minera Nor Peru S.A. (ASARCO), Cyprus Minerals, Teck Resources, Kennecott Exploration, Echo Bay Exploration, Kalahari Resources, Hochschild and Minefinders, Ltd. He co-founded EXMIN Resources, acting as VP Exploration until its sale to Diabras Exploration in 2009. Dr. Gibson holds extensive professional experience managing project operations from startup through development. His track record includes participating in exploration programs that have resulted in several major discoveries in Mexico, including Paredones Amarillos, in Baja California Sur and Dolores, in Chihuahua. He most recently founded  ProDeMin (Prospeccion y Desarrollos Mineros del Norte), an exploration services company providing project operations and QA-QC oversight.

Dr. David E. Euresti-Reyna – President – Minera Aurea S.A. de C.V.

Dr. Euresti has over 41 years experience in State and Privately-owned Mexican mining companies, such as Cananea, Autlán, Real de Angeles, Real del Monte (Managing Director), Macocozac, Química Fluor, Zincamex, and Lampazos among others. Dr Euresti has a Ph.D. in Mineral Economics from Penn State University, and has a Metallurgic and Mining Engineering degree from the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. Most recently, Dr. Euresti served as COO of Aurea Mining Inc and is currently the President of Newstrike Capitals 100% Mexican subsidiary, Minera Aurea. Dr. Euresti is an original founder of the Guerrero Gold belt, credited with the Nukay, Filos and Limon discoveries.

Thomas Bagan – Vice President of Project Development

Mr. Bagan (P.E. MBA) has over 30 years of industry experience in project development, advanced engineering and business development. He has held several senior management positions in open-pit and underground mines spanning four continents and 14 countries. Most recently, Mr. Bagan was Vice President, Corporate Development at Minefinders Corporation.

Salvador Miranda – Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Miranda is President of InterAmerica Consulting & Development Inc., a private business consulting company he founded in 1995 to develop business ventures between Canada and Mexico. Mr. Miranda’s functions include all financial, administrative and accounting aspects, including preparation and supervision of filings. He has also served as director, officer or consultant for several companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange since 1997, and brings extensive public market experience to the Company. A civil engineer by training, Mr. Miranda holds a Master’s degree in Project Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

Board Members

Richard O’C. Whittall – Director, President and CEO

Mr. Whittall is a seasoned investment banker based in Vancouver, British Columbia. His background includes serving as a past director of Miranda Mining Corp, the first junior company to promote and develop the Guerrero Gold belt, from 1995 until its sale to Wheaton River Minerals (Goldcorp) in 2003. Mr. Whittall has participated in a diverse range of corporate activities, including mergers and acquisitions and corporate financings. Most recently Mr. Whittall co-founded Aurea Mining Inc, acting as its president and CEO until its merger in 2008 with Newstrike Capital, part of The Lundin Group. He currently serves as a director of several public and private companies, and holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and University of Cambridge.

Ken Thorsen – Director

Mr. Thorsen is a Geological Engineer (P.Eng.) with an extensive 40 year background in mining exploration throughout North & South America and China and Australia. He served 21 years in several management and senior roles at Teck Corporation, retiring as President of Teck Explorations Limited in March 2002. He is currently on the board of directors of a number of junior mining companies and is frequently sought out for advice from other companies with respect to their exploration financing and field programs. He has experience in several parts of the world including Canada, China, Australia, Argentina and Venezuela and has been involved in several major discoveries both at the field and management levels, including the San Nicolas, Los Filos and Limon discoveries in Mexico. Mr. Thorsen plays an active role in Newstrike’s technical programs and is a qualified person under NI43-101.

Robert K. Withers – Director

Mr. Withers is a past Director of HSBC Capital (Canada) Inc., where he advised senior management teams across a broad range of industries with respect to key corporate decisions and events including acquisitions, financings and divestitures. Mr. Withers is currently Chairman of PRT Forest Regeneration Income Fund and is an honours graduate of the University of British Columbia Bachelor of Commerce program.

Kevin Rathbun – Director

Mr. Rathbun is CFO of Realm Energy International. He has been a partner with Watershed Capital Partners since 2001 and has been directly involved in numerous successful merger, acquisition and divestiture transactions. He holds the designations of Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner, as well as a degree from Royal Roads University.

Wojtek Wodzicki – Director

Dr. Wodzicki has worked in the international mining industry since 1987, managing exploration programs on five continents. His impressive career with Teck Cominco Ltd. included managing exploration offices in Bolivia, Peru, Chile, and Argentina. In 2001 Dr. Wodzicki was appointed Teck Cominco’s General Manager of Exploration for North America and Europe-Africa. He holds a doctorate in Geosciences from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Wodzicki is currently the President and CEO of NGEx Resources Inc., a TSX-V listed exploration company with gold and copper projects in North and South America and Africa.

George Brack – Director

Mr. Brack’s 25-year career in the mining industry has focused on investment banking and corporate development, specifically identifying, evaluating, and executing strategic mergers and acquisitions, and the provision of equity financing. Most recently Mr. Brack acted as the Managing Director and Industry Head, Mining Group, of Scotia Capital. Prior to joining Scotia Capital in 2006, Mr. Brack spent seven years as President of Macquarie North America Ltd., an investment banking firm specializing in merger and acquisition advice. Previous to that, Mr. Brack was Vice-President, Corporate Development at Placer Dome Inc., was Vice-President of the investment banking group at CIBC Wood Gundy, and worked in Rio Algom’s Corporate Development department. Mr. Brack currently serves as a director of Alexco Resource Corp., Capstone Mining Corp., Geologix Exploration Inc. and Red Back Mining Inc.

Mr. Brack holds a BA. Sc. in Geological Engineering from the University of Toronto, an MBA from York University, and the CFA designation.

Mark Backens – Director

Mr. Backens has over 30 years of global mining experience including most recently as Director of Investment Banking – Mining for Scotia Capital. For most of his career, Mr. Backens had senior management roles with Meridian Gold, Placer Dome and Goldcorp in the areas of engineering, mine construction, mine management and corporate development. Mr. Backens holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and is a Professional Geologist.

 

Advisory Board

John Morganti

John Morganti (P. Geo., Ph.D.) is currently President of Morganti Advisers Inc., a company specializing in advising mining and exploration companies on strategy, evaluation, investor relations, exploration and financing issues, which are critical to rational growth and maximizing shareholder value of those companies.

Over the past 35 years, Dr. Morganti has worked at Teck, Placer Dome, Silver King Mines, David Lowell Consultants and with consulting firms working in Alaska. In addition, he has been a director of Canadian and Latin American public companies.

At Teck Corporation and its successor companies, Dr. Morganti has held office as Vice-President, Gold, Vice-President, Evaluations, Director, Precious Metals, Director, Project Development. Before his retirement from Teck in 2009 Dr. Morganti was Director, Market Analysis and reviewed new commodities-based industries and strategic issues for Teck.

Previous to joining Teck, Dr. Morganti worked with Placer Development and its successor Placer Dome. At Placer he held office as Manager, Project Development, Evaluation Engineer in the Project Development Department and Manager, Exploration Eastern Canada. With the opening up of the world to mineral development in the 1990s, he was Vice- President, Europe, Africa, Middle East and South East Asia, and was based in Miami and London, England.

Dr. Morganti has participated in a number of teams which discovered new mineralization from grassroots programs, which moved projects from initial discovery to feasibility stage, which developed mines in North America and Australia and which managed acquisitions of projects, mines and companies. At Placer Dome, he was instrumental in initiating the concept of MinEx/CampEx at eastern Canadian mines. This concept led to new finds at the Dome Mine, Detour Lake and Campbell Red Lake mines and was used to find new gold deposits at mines in Nevada and Australia.
